JUST IN: All 16 resolutions passed, per @AZGOP, including censures of Cindy McCain, Doug Ducey and Jeff Flake

I hope this gets AT LEAST as much attention as Democrats debating actual messaging and campaign tactics. A state party just censured their sitting governor, among others. Republicans in disarray...

In case you missed it, Bruce opened the #CelebratingAmerica concert special with a stirring performance of “Land Of Hope And Dreams” to mark the inauguration of @POTUS Joe Biden and @VP Kamala Harris.

Inaugural week ends with my mom’s inaugural viewing of “Empire Strikes Back,” complete with her uniquely syncretic pop cultural repertoire ... “why didn’t the really handsome guy - who I recall is an archeologist - bring something to build a fire for his nice frozen friend?”

Read this and enjoy. Trust me.

Congratulations to SecDef Austin, the first Black man to serve in this position. He is qualified for many reasons, but do not discount what his history-making nomination means, to those who serve who have never seen themselves in their leaders and on issues that need addressing.

Today, in the afternoon, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden is visiting D.C.'s beloved Whitman-Walker Health, which specializes in LGBTQ health care. It hasn't even been 72 hours since the inauguration. The level of care and empathy for LGBTQ people under this White House is immediate.

Yes! And also demonstrates an interest and curiosity about the city that the White House happens to be in. Refreshing after four years of a sealed bunker approach.

Talking openly about abortion not only normalizes healthcare utilized by 1 in 4 people in our country (dayenu), but it also takes power away from an organized movement led by people who fight for minority rule. Break the spell: Say the word abortion, on Roe day and other days.

Today in @FastCompany, an excerpt by @Schriock1 from Run to Win on how women leaders often need to break the unwritten rules for success because the systems weren't made for them.

Just an observation about the media:

We’ve gotten dozens of request from political reporters asking to be connected with veterans who became right-wing extremists.

But we’ve gotten zero interest in the perspective of POC troops who had to cope with extremists in their units.

Replying to @lea: This is a great point.

We should celebrate everyone's rights being protected. In fact, we should demand it. Thank you @POTUS for taking positive steps. And I'm sorry to any trans woman who has been made to feel less than by insecure people who prioritize their fears over your rights.

I loved hearing a Baby Boomer-era Marine vet openly mock people for trying to keep people from being who they are and marrying who they loved.

Pretty sure he would have felt the same about the argument that protecting trans women's rights is somehow bad for other women.

I remember in 2012, talking to my Dad about how great it was that four states voted the right way on marriage equality and he said, "well, that's strange. I was told that gay marriage would end traditional marriage and yet I'm pretty sure your mom and I are still married."

They have great “surprise” books you can order, sales on some of my favorites and, as of this month, a new book of the month subscription. Love the newsletter (with dog pics!), the bookmark, even the wrapping.
