Ta-Nehisi Coates was the first writer I knew who laid out the definitive case as to why Donald Trump is a white supremacist. His piece was firmly in my mind when I called Trump a white supremacist in 2017. Ta-Nehisi’s piece today on Trump is a must read:
Here’s the difference, folks.
When Colin Kaepernick speaks out against racial injustice, no team will sign him.
When Josh Hawley gets dropped for helping incite an insurrection, he lands another book deal in less than 2 weeks.
This is what white privilege looks like.
Here is #Selma director @ava on what the name Martin Luther King Jr. means to her. I've always loved what she says here - about who he was as a man and about the power of non-violence. Terrific film by a great director - watch it today wherever you rent movies.
Just pressed play on @ava’s “Selma.”
Her vision, David’s interpretation, Bradford’s eye, Spencer’s choices... this is an exceptional film.
“Selma it is.”
Don’t get me started on the rest of the ensemble: Colman, Tessa, Common, Oprah, Carmen, Lorraine, Tom, and Dylan.
A few years later, @mccandelish/@infobeautiful conducted his own study, exploring “based on a true story” films scene-by-scene, beat-by-beat, testing their veracity on a data level.
The most true film... wait for it...
On this MLK Day, let us also remember that @ava’s Selma is the most historically accurate film in recent memory.
