Thank you so much for the comments. At the end of the post, when I said that I've always wanted to give this stuff meaning, and I wrote:

"I think ultimately that’s really kind of impossible, because the only thing that can give it meaning is you."

I really meant YOU, the reader, not a hypothetical "you."

In writing these stories (I've been writing some on my blog, too), it's amazing but, I'm actually feeling even further separated from all that pain. It's the coolest thing to think that what I'm writing means something to others.

So thanks for that. :-)

I love the way you've articulated all of this so well. Especially "there's always a tell", I've found it hard to find words for that situation and yours fits beautifully.

Writing about my "tell" has been one of the best things I've ever done for my own mental health and has assisted in my healing of "the crazy".

Thank you so much for this. Your insights have led me to some of my own. One realization I'm having is that I have absolutely no shame left about my years spent with depression. Even after I felt better there used to be lots of shame, and now it is simply gone, like putting on an old pair of jeans and having them fall to your ankles-- where did the weight go? Just.... gone. I believe this comes from lots of sharing--others sharing their pain with me has been even more healing than the other way around. Wow. That's an awesome realization. Your words are medicine. Thank you.

I am currently suffering from (medicated for) post-partum depression, after the birth of my second child a few months ago. If I hadn't read so many blog posts like this one, I might not have sought help as quickly as I did, so thanks for this and thanks to everyone else who has ever posted about their depression.

For so many reasons -- YES. I don't have much to add - you nailed it with the bear-trap analogy, just nodding my head in agreement. Thank you for writing/sharing this.
